Injured defender Juan replaced from Brazil friendly against Algeria

SAO PAULO, Brazil: AS Roma defender Juan was dropped from the Brazil squad to face Algeria in a friendly next week in France because of a muscle injury.

Brazil coach Dunga summoned Benfica's Luisao to replace Juan, the Brazilian Soccer Confederation said on Monday.

Juan called Brazil doctor Jose Luis Runco to advise of his injury and will send a medical report to the Brazilian confederation.

For the first time, Luisao will play in the national team alongside younger brother Alex Silva, a Sao Paulo player who was chosen by Dunga last week.

The match in Montpellier will be Brazil's first since winning the Copa America in Venezuela last month.

Stars Ronaldinho and Kaka will return to the team after skipping the South American championship.

The confederation also said it has not finalized a deal to play the United States in a friendly on Sept. 9 in Chicago, as announced by the U.S. Soccer Federation. The CBF said the negotiations are advanced, however.

Brazil will play Mexico on Sept. 12 in Boston
