Rogério Ceni Nets Thirtieth Penalty
The chilly southern Brazilian location of Florianópolis – a resort packed with Brazilians, Uruguayans and Argentineans in the summer months – was the scene for veteran goalkeeper Rogério Ceni to score his thirtieth spot kick…
The 34 year-old São Paulo FC Captain and sometime Brazil keeper helped his side to avoid defeat in the Copa Sudamericana (South American Cup; the equivalent of the UEFA Cup) against outsiders Figueirense in the 2-2 first leg knockout match.
Counting yesterday’s strike, Rogério has scored an impressive total of 75 goals in his seventeen seasons with the Tricolor Paulista, but refused to take a lot of credit for the draw despite his goal and several providential saves.
“Every goal is important, but all I did was to contribute to the final result like all my other team-mates who pulled together to ensure that São Paulo didn’t leave Figueirense with the win”, explained the number 1 who hails from the same town as AC Milan man Pato.
