Brazilian Battle In Portugal: Liédson Versus Helton

Sporting Clube striker Liédson has a man in his sights for the upcoming Supertaça Cândido de Oliveira (Cândido de Oliveira SuperCup) on Saturday: none other than a fellow Brazilian: FC Porto keeper Helton…

The clássico that will pit Cup winners Sporting Clube against League winners FC Porto in Leiria at the weekend will se a new face-off as the Sporting striker tries to beat his own personal bogeyman between the FC Porto sticks.

The Ninja has never scored a goal against the sometime Seleção keeper, even while the goalie was starting to stand out in Portugal at minnows União de Leiria and Liédson was already a feared goal machine in the Terrinha.

The Leão number 31 is one of the top Bwin Liga scorers of recent years, approaching fellow countryman Mario Jardel in terms of ability to shovel the goals in, and only has Naval goalie Taborda and the Dragão to beat in the entire league.

Now it’s the very same stage that Helton began to shine on, the Dr. Magalhães Pessoa stadium, where the latest chapter of the fierce rivalry will be played out.
