Brazilian defender Betao reaches deal to move to Sochaux

SAO PAULO, Brazil: Brazilian defender Betao has reached a deal to move from four-time Brazilian champion Corinthians to French club Sochaux.

Betao, whose full name is Eberto Willian Amancio, traveled to France on Monday to sign a four-year contract with Sochaux, which finished seventh in the French first division last season.

Transfer details were not immediately released, but local media said Corinthians will receive €1.2 million (US$1.6 million) to release the player.

Betao's contract with Corinthians was due to end later this year.

The 23-year-old defender began playing in the team's youth squads and gradually moved up to the senior Corinthians team, where he was made captain.

Corinthians has been struggling in the Brazilian league and is only 15th in the 20-team standings.
